The Shooting of Johnny Polk

On January 19th, 1996, Johnny Polk was the subject of a raid by the Metro Narcotics Unit a joint unit of Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputies and Rockford Police officers.


A search warrant was obtained by Rockford cops after Johnny allegedly sold cocaine to undercover cops.


The DEA joined the Metro unit on the raid onto Polk’s household around 1:30 p.m. Johnny was in the bathroom home alone when cops broke into his home.


It is alleged that Johnny reached for a Rockford police officers gun when he was shot by Mark Jimenez, a Rockford police officer.


Johnny was hit in the stomach and taken to Rockford Memorial Hospital.


This was the 9th police shooting of the 1990’s in Winnebago County.


This was the first shooting since the shooting of Timothy Harper two months prior.
