On November 17th, 2022, Austin Levitski and a woman were in the parking lot of Walmart in Roscoe.
It was reported a civilian, not an employee of Walmart, waved down Rockton police sergeant Ben Heintz. At this time it is unclear why Heintz was at Walmart.
While Heintz was approaching, Austin drove off allegedly in the direction of the cop. Heintz fired three shots into the moving car as Austin passed him in the parking lot.
Heintz and Winnebago County Sheriff's deputies initiated a high speed pursuit of Austin that reached over 100 mph.
It ended when Austin crashed into a garage. Officers approached the scene as Austin was getting up. Officers tased him before taking him into custody.
Austin was shot once in the arm.
This was the 33rd case investigated and justified by the Winnebago Boone County Integrity Task Force.
