Killing of Concepcion Corral

In the early morning hours of March 29th, 1998, Conception (aka Roberto) Corral was outside the familiy’s home trying to speak with his recently separated wife.


Rockford police officer Randall Peraza who had previously responded to a domestic call at the home and was familiar with Corral and his wife.


Peraza is reported to have pulled his gun out at some point of the interaction with Corral that led to Coral ducking in between parked cars.


The couple’s eldest daughter told Rockford Register Star reporter Chris Green that she was woken up by the sound of her mother screaming ‘Don’t shoot him. He’s not armed.’



This was the 13th police shooting in Winnebago County in the 1990’s - all have been justified.


This was the first police shooting in 1998 by Rockford police officers.
