The Killing of Kiethedric

Hines

On August 10th, 2008, a 911 call was made to report a domestic incident on Darwood Drive where Kiethedric Hines was allegedly trying to break down a woman’s door.


When Rockford Police Officer Brad Lauer arrived on scene, Kieth ran.

The chase went through multiple backyards ultimately ending when Kieth went to hop a fence but was tased in the back by Lauer.


Rockford police officer Eric McClain arrived as back up and pepper sprayed Kieth as he was on the ground. The two RPD officers allegedly beat Kieth into restraints.


Kieth told officers that he was struggling to breathe but the kept him in cuffs as they waited for an ambulance to arrive.


The 31-year-old Kiethedric Hines died later that day.


This was the fourth non shooting deadly force incident in two years by police in Winnebago Ciunty.


This was the 17th deadly force incident in the 2000’s by police in Winnebago County.
