Michael Schissel

Michael Schissel has been a Rockford police officer since 1998.

In 2003, Schissel was named in a lawsuit along with other RPD officers alleging wrongful arrest.

Schissel and RPD officers Black and Dulgar followed a suspect into a driveway causing the resident of the home, an elder woman, to come out to the front porch and ask the officers what was going on.

The officers told her to “Get your goddamn ass back in the house.”

When she stayed on the porch, officers began to question her asking if she knew the suspect. She told them she didn’t know the suspect. The officers told her again to get her “Goddamn ass back in the house.”

Again, she stayed on the porch. Officers approached her and asked for her information and she gave it. They then placed her under arrest. She was charged with resisting arrest. The charges were eventually dropped after being reviewed by the prosecutor.
