Michael Rhein has been a Rockford Police officer since 2021.

On December 24th, 2023, RPD officers Gorsuch and Michael Rhein responded to a 911 call made by an apartment neighbor of Patrick Kirby who said they overheard him repeating “Help me. Kill me.”

Kirby eventually came to the door with a box cutter and small knife in hand. The two cops yelled at him to put it down. When he did not, Rhein shot him twice ultimately killing him.

In 2021, Rhein made $55,350 in salary + $1,799 in overtime = $57,149 + $8,060 in health insurance + $34,932 in pension pay.
