Melissa Sundly has been a Rockford police officer since 2001.

On February 6th, 2019, Sundly responded to the shooting of Randy Pierson by then Rockford Police officer Timothy Stec on Highway 20.

Sundly blocked traffic from entering the scene before being relieved by Kaera Watson.

Melissa Sundly since 2020, has been assigned to work multiple protests.

In the fall of 2021, Sundly responded to a call made by Rockford Orthopedic.

The business owners were washing away chalk that was written by community members. While they were doing this, the business owners began to taunt and wave at an occupier at City Hall.

The occupier began to film and cross over to the public sidewalk across from City Hall.

The business owners and employees began to yell, threaten and falsely accuse the occupier of being on the sidewalk illegally.

One of the employees had to be physically restrained by multiple people.

The occupier continued filming as they refuted the claims made by the business owners.

One of the employees called the police, Sundly was one of cops that responded and arrested the occupier on two counts of disorderly conduct.

The charges were briefly dismissed before they were refiled a month later and the occupier was rearrested for the same two charges.
