Matthew Warren has been a Rockford police officer since 2014.
On May 30th, 2020, Warren, as a SWAT team cop, was assigned to monitor the first protest in Rockford following the murder of George Floyd.
When the SWAT team was activated they formed a “skirmish line” outside of District 1.
While on the line Warren physically pushed multiple protestors.
None of the individuals he made contact with were arrested.
Warren was allegedly hit in the face by a flying water bottle.
Late in the night, Warren smashed the windows of a car with his baton.
Warren was assigned to work multiple 2020 City Market protests. These protests were initiated in an attempt to raise awareness to the local police violence that took place on May 30th.
On August 7th, 2020, Warren and Braden Burke arrested a protestor for walking in a crosswalk.
The individual would later have his charges dismissed.
On August 21st, 2020, Warren arrested a protestor for “flipping off” himself and other officers.
On August 28th, 2020, Warren assisted in an arrested a nonviolent protestor. The individual would be charged with Mob action and obstruction.
The charges would later be dropped.
