Matthew Shelton has been a Rockford police officer since January 2012.
Shelton is currently a sergeant over the SCOPE team - a team he has been on at least since 2019.
On May 30th, 2020, Shelton allegedly was hit by a rock in the neck. A photo was taken of where the rock hit three days later.
An important note, of the ten individuals arrested, only one protestor was charged for throwing rocks. That individual was found not guilty after a jury trial.
Shelton as a SCOPE officer worked multiple 2020 City Market Protests.
On September 25th, 2020, Shelton and Michael Dalke arrested a protestor. The protestor would reportedly suffer a seizure and have difficulties breathing due to Shelton and Dalke’s use of force.
