John Johnson has been a Rockford Police officer since September 2006.


In the early morning hours of January 28, 2012, Johnson responded to a 911 call at San Jose on State Street.


The call stated that there had been a large fight and a shot fired. Johnson pulled over a coupe that was leaving the scene. Amado Soria arrived shortly after and approached the coupe.


In the backseat of the coupe was Phillip Johnson Jr - no relation - Witnesses reported to the May 30th Alliance that the driver and the front seat passenger exited the vehicle. When Phillip reached down to raise the seat, Soria shot him three times.


On February 6, 2019, Johnson responded to the shooting of Randy Pierson by then Rockford Police officer Timothy Stec on Highway 20. Johnson redirected all traffic from South Main.


Johnson was assigned to work multiple 2020 City Market protests.
