Duane Johnson has been a Rockford police officer since April 1995.

He was initially assigned to the field services bureau & patrol.

From 1998 - 2000 he served as a field training officer.

2000-2001, he was a part of the tact team, a precursor to the SCOPE team.

2001-2014 Johnson worked primarily as a K-9 officer.

In 2014, Johnson was promoted to be the sergeant of the K-9 unit.

Since 2016, he has served as RPD’s radio communications coordinator.

In 2020, he was assigned to be a District 3 Day time sergeant.

In 2024, Johnson was promoted to the rank of lieutenant over District 2, an administrative lieutenant under Assistant Deputy Chief Randy Berke.
