David Nicosia has been a Rockford Police officer since October 2007.

Nicosia previously worked 17 years as a cop in Florida. When Nicosia first tried to join RPD he was denied because Illinois law at the time was a candidate had to be under 35 or have already worked a full year as a Illinois officer.

Nicosia did not meet either requirement. He sued the police and fire commission in 2006.

On February 6th, 2019, Nicosia responded to the shooting of Randy Pierson by then Rockford Police officer Timothy Stec on Highway 20. Nicosia oversaw multiple officers as they spoke to witnesses and reported back.
