Brandon Pofelski has been a Rockford police officer since November 2007.
Pofelski was initially assigned to the field services bureau.
In 2013, he was assigned to the M-3 Street team, a precursor to SCOPE.
In 2018, he was promoted to investigator. He was then put on the Gang Unit eventually out on the Violent Crimes Unit.
He was promoted to the rank of sergeant serving the District 1 afternoon shift under lieutenant Gordon Spriggs.
On August 25th, 2011, a Rockford community member was driving heading east on Sherman Avenue near Independence drive.
Pofelski was on duty in a Rockford police squad car traveling west on Sherman. Pofelski at the time was not investigating any crime, nor was he headed to any emergency scene. He did not have his lights or siren activated.
In a personal injury lawsuit it was alleged that Pofelski crashed into a vehicle after making a sudden turn without yielding to oncoming traffic or using his turn signal.
