Brad Lauer #3849

This is Brad Lauer’s second stint as a Rockford police department officer. He was rehired in 2016.

On August 10th, 2008, a 911 call was made to report a domestic incident on Darwood Drive where Kiethedric Hines was allegedly trying to break down a woman’s door.

When Rockford Police Officer Brad Lauer arrived on scene, Kieth ran.

The chase went through multiple backyards ultimately ending when Kieth went to hop a fence but was tased in the back by Lauer.

Rockford police officer Eric McClain arrived as back up and pepper sprayed Kieth as he was on the ground. The two RPD officers allegedly beat Kieth into restraints.

Kieth told officers that he was struggling to breathe but the kept him in cuffs as they waited for an ambulance to arrive.

The 31-year-old Kiethedric Hines died later that day.

This was the fourth non shooting deadly force incident in two years by police in Winnebago Ciunty.

This was the 17th deadly force incident in the 2000’s by police in Winnebago County.

Lauer faced no punishment or reprimand for his abuse.

In August of 2013, Lauer left RPD to take a job as a sergeant in Lake Delton, Wisconsin.

Two and half years later, Lauer was rehired through Rockford’s lateral hiring program. Lauer maintained the rank of Sergeant.

In 2021, Lauer was assigned to be a school resource officer at Auburn High School.

Lauer went through training and had to meet other criteria to work this position.

During the first two weeks of school, an incident began taking place after a Auburn High School teacher allegedly made a black neurodiverse 14 year old freshman feel uncomfortable for wearing a hoodie.

The freshman then left the classroom and began to walk the halls on his phone. The freshman was then physically confronted, by assistant principal Scott Dimke. Dimke repeatedly grabbed and pushed the freshman in the hallways.

Dimke physically guided the freshman into a secluded, unmonitored room. Once there, it is alleged that Dimke called for Lauer who responded immediately.

Lauer pulled the 4’11 foot 140 pound freshman from the secluded room, and slamming them onto the marble floor. He then searched the freshman’s unconscious body and put him into handcuffs.

When the freshman’s grandma arrived to pick him up, Lauer and RPS staff lied to her saying that the injuries were caused by the freshman slipping and falling. It wasn’t until the grandma brought the freshman to the hospital that the fractured skull was discovered.

The slam caused the freshman to lose consciousness, suffer a fractured skull amongst other injuries to his body.

There is currently an ongoing lawsuit filed by the family of the freshman against Scott Dimke, Brad Lauer, the RPS 205 school board along with other Auburn administration.
