Andrew Kennington #0266

Andrew Kennington has been a Rockford police officer since 2014.


He was named in an excessive force complaint. A black woman alleged during what should have been a routine traffic stop, Kennington and other Rockford Police officers ordered her out of the vehicle. Once out, officers grabbed and pushed the woman while twisting her arms.


The charges pressed against the black woman would be dropped.


Kennington was involved in multiple arrests during 2020 City Market protests. The protests began in an attempt to raise awareness to the local police violence that took place on May 30th, 2020, during the first protest following the murder George Floyd.


On August 21st, 2020, Kennington was assigned to work City Market Protest detail.


Kennington arrested the individual in the photograph above for walking in a crosswalk on. Once arrested, officers tied up the service dog to a pole for hours as the individual sat in the prison transport bus.


When they transported the woman to jail, they sent to the dog to the pound.


The dog died days after.


All charges pressed against the individual were dropped.
