Tyler Helgerson was a Rockford police officer in 2024.
In November of 2024, Helgerson called 911 alleging a woman was suicidal with a gun inside his home.
Winnebago County Sheriff Deputies responded to the call where they found Helgerson inside the home with a woman handcuffed to a bed frame.
The woman told deputies that Helgerson tried to control nearly every aspect of her life, not allowing her to have a job, friends or own a vehicle. She also informed the deputies of a cameras Helgerson had installed as a way to keep a constant eye on her.
After the deputies watched the footage Helgerson was arrested and charged with unlawful restraint, domestic battery and aggravated domestic battery and strangulation.
The footage showed the couple arguing in verbal and physical confrontations for over two hours before Helgerson slammed her to the ground, put her in a chokehold, and dragged her throughout the house.
In 2024, Helgerson made $37,515 in salary + $408 in overtime = $37,923 + $8,775 in health insurance + $52,059 in pension pay.
